EZ Roller 8 Electric Mobile System

Space Savings with Accessibility

There are a number of factors to contemplate when considering upgrading to an electric mobile system.

The first factor is activity:
It's no secret that the fastest and most convenient way to file and retrieve records is with a stationary open shelf cabinet system. However, if space constraints won't allow that, then mobilizing your cabinets is the solution. Unfortunately, by mobilizing, you typically sacrifice accessibility for space. A mechanically operated system is an option for low to moderately active systems. However, a mechanically operated system does require a certain amount of physical effort which is time consuming. Whereas, if you motorize a system, a simple push of a button quickly and effortlessly opens an aisle anywhere in the system.

Functionality with Ease of Use

The second factor is functionality and ease of use:
Located on the end of each carriage is our easy to understand "Soft Touch" control pad. The control pad is laid out with two oversized "Soft Touch" membranes which open the system. We call it "Soft Touch" because the membrane is activated by the electricity generated by the human body, as opposed to activating the control by some kind of mechanical switch which can wear out over time. A new aisle is created by simply touching either side of the desired new aisle location. The oversized touch areas also allow for "hands-full" operation which reduces access time when you have your hands full of file folders.

Control the Aisle Width

The aisle distance in a Jeter EZ-Roller 8 is controlled by a sensor located within each carriage. These distance sensors utilize advanced photo optic technology to regulate carriage stopping by allowing each carriage to know where it is in relation to the other carriages in the system. This allows all of the carriages to follow each other in a consistently timed manner, even if the carriage loads vary. The distance sensors also control the soft shop action of the carriage. When the sensor detects that it is within 4" of its preprogrammed destination, it signals the control box to slow the motor down before stopping. This soft stopping greatly reduces the wear and tear on motors and extends the useful life of the system.

Safe and Reliable

The third factor to contemplate when considering upgrading to an electric mobile system is safety:
The system employs a passive safety system. Every time an aisle opens the system becomes activated and prevents the aisle from opening until the lights are cleared. The red LEDs on the Stop Panels are illuminated on both sides of the opened aisle, Simply touch the illuminated Panels on both sides of the currently opened aisle and you are ready to open another aisle.

Photoelectric Safety Sweep

The EZ-Holler 8 system also has a photoelectric safety sweep which consists of two components that work together; they are the emitter and the receiver. The emitter is located at one end of the long side of the carriage while the receiver is located at the opposite end of the same carriage. In addition to protecting individuals, the photoelectric safety sweep also protects items that may have been inadvertently left in the aisle. Once the beam of light has been interrupted, the Emergency Stop Loop light is triggered and must be cleared before the system will operate.

Motion Sensors

Motion sensors are perfect for sensing a person moving in and out of the aisle. Once the motion sensor has detected a person entering the aisle, the unit is electronically halted.

Motor Current Monitoring System (MCMS)

Another safety feature is the Motor Current Monitoring System or MCMS. The MCMS Logic within the controller monitors any change in current being drawn by the motor. Detection of the change will trigger an immediate stop command to cease carriage movement. Basically, a moving carriage will be stopped when it encounters an obstruction that offers twenty-five pounds of resistance. When you exert the pressure, the carriage will stop and the Emergency Stop will begin flashing.

Additionally, when the weight of items stored on the mobile carriage is either increased or decreased, the change will automatically be detected by the controller and the carriage running and stopping speeds will be instantaneously adjusted to meet the new weight load.

Optional Entry Detection System (EDS)

The optional Entry Detection System utilizes advanced Infra-red absolute technology. The advanced EDS safety system monitors the entire air space of an open aisle and immediately detects body heat as a person enters the aisle. Once activated, the system is prevented from moving.

Transponder Technology

Each "Soft Touch" control pad is also programmable with these transponder keys. We use transponder technology so that system users can take advantage of the system's functionality without special training, equipment, or service personnel.

The color coded transponder keys have been designed to communicate with the Jeter EZ-Roller 8 controller software by emitting a discreet radio frequency signal.

Using the Transponder Keys

The "setup" transponder keys allow users to make adjustments to the system. Each setup key has two colors.

The RED/GRAY=Passive Safety:
Allows users to activate or deactivate the passive safety feature of the controller software.

The BLUE/GRAY=Stopping Distance:
Allows users to adjust the distance left between a carriage and the adjoining carriage up to 8 inches at the end of the drive sequence. This stopping distance adjustment is utilized when stored materials extend past the edge of a shelf and require additional distance between carriages.

The YELLOW/GRAY=Movable to Stationary:
Allows users to make a movable carriage stationary. This change can be on either a temporary or permanent basis. The same key is used to return a carriage programmed to be stationary, back to movable.

The GREEN/GRAY=Manual Drive:
Allows users to move the carriages slowly when they are being positioned for Firepark or stopping distance adjustments.

The "Security Access" keys allow for the restriction of access to specific aisles or groups of aisles. The security access transponder keys are solid colors.

A security key set includes 10 solid-colored keys and one yellow/gray master key. The Security Access keys are required when one or more aisles in the mobile system have been programmed for limited access.

Using the PC

This system is also designed to interface easily with a PC. The PC can be used to make all of the setup adjustments previously discussed and it is required to set security patterns and establish Firepark positions. Additionally, it can be interfaced with our MasterTrak records management program for unsurpassed file control and integrity.
